"If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning" - teaching legal AI literacy with real-life court filings
AI hallucinations don't seem to going away anytime soon,. Using actual court orders and filings to 1) expose students to how courts are treating AI-generated errors and 2) give students experience in scanning, finding and correcting such errors, from real cases, gives weight to our cautionary tales about how to use this technology ethically and effectively. The goal is to show students the real-life stakes of using GenAI tools carelessly, especially as judges start to lose patience with practitioners over such errors.
