This session explores the rapidly evolving intersection of intellectual property law and artificial intelligence. As AI systems move into industry and academic, providing text, images, music, software code, designs, and more, legal professionals should be able to anticipate how copyright, patent, publicity rights, and trade secret law play roles in AI systems development and deployment. The program will examine key legal questions, including ownership of AI-generated works, the use of copyrighted material in AI training datasets, patentability of AI-assisted inventions, and emerging litigation and regulatory developments. The program will emphasize how law school professionals can address these topics in their own work and what core considerations should be provided to students.
